Peter Theron Candidate for WI 2nd Congressional district

(response to recent vote in the house of representatives)

On 1930 June 17 the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act was signed into law. It raised US import tariffs to record levels, prompting trade retaliation from other nations. The resulting trade barriers crippled the global economy, contributing to the Great Depression.

On 2009 June 26 the US House of Representatives approved a Cap and Tax bill that surpasses the Smoot-Hawley tariff in economic destructiveness. Wisconsin’s delegation voted along party lines with the five Democrats voting to sacrifice the US economy to the false god of Anthropogenic Global Warming and the three Republicans voting against the insanity.

When voting for this bill, none of the Wisconsin Democrats knew exactly what was in it. How could they, 300 pages were added less than 24 hours before their floor vote. But we can deduce the Democrats’ intent from three revealing votes in the Energy and Commerce committee. As reported in the Wall Street Journal on 2009 June 26, while the bill was in the Energy and Commerce committee “…Republicans offered three amendments: one to suspend the program if gas hit $5 a gallon; one to suspend the program if electricity prices rose 10% over 2009; and one to suspend the program if unemployment rates hit 15%. Democrats defeated all of them.”

From their committee votes we know that Tammy Baldwin and the other committee Democrats intend to raise the price of gasoline to at least $5 a gallon. No surprise, as their goal is to decrease the use of carbon-based fuels and raising the price will do that. That is the only way that Americans will buy the electric cars that Government Motors is going to be trying to sell.

The second vote indicates that Tammy Baldwin et al do not mind if electricity prices jump. Unfortunately this could make it expensive to charge the electric cars they want us to buy.

But the third vote is the most revealing. It shatters the myth that the Democrats care about the poor. An unemployment rate of 15% means 1 out of every 7 American workers is without work. Democrats are willing to sacrifice the jobs of 1 out of every 7 Americans because a computer program claims this will lower the temperature 0.2 degrees in 2100. So, Democrats are content with a 50% increase in the unemployment rate, throwing millions of Americans out of work. All this dislocation because a computer program claims it will lower the temperature 0.2 degrees.

Others elsewhere have dissected the myths of Anthropogenic Global Warming. All I will do here is point out that a Madison weatherman provides only a 4 degree guarantee on his forecasts of the next day’s high temperature. The global-warming acolytes have put their faith in a computer program claiming 20-fold greater accuracy in making a temperature prediction 90 years hence. That has passed from the realm of science and entered the realm of religion.

In the 1930s and 40s Russian biology was strongly influenced by the theories of Trofim Denisovich Lysenko. While his theories had little scientific backing, they did have Joseph Stalin’s blessing. Needless to say political backing more than compensated for the lack of experimental supporting evidence. Dissent was punished and contrary evidence suppressed. In the US the reliance on government grants has paved the way for similarly politicized science. Those expressing dissent from the global warming “consensus” lost grant funding and their papers were not published in prestigious journals. Some day soon Anthropogenic Global Warming will join Lysenkoism as an embarrassment to the world scientific community.

Making policy based on politically influenced science needlessly sacrifices lives and livelihoods. Smoot-Hawley contributed to the Great Depression. If signed into law, Cap and Tax, based on politically-correct science, will increase the price of fuel, increase the price of electricity, and increase unemployment. It will not “promote the general welfare” and so should be scrapped as quickly as possible.

But that should not stop independent-minded voters from appreciating Theron’s strengths and Baldwin’s weaknesses.Theron would resist tax hikes on businesses and families. As a college instructor, he also understands the value of higher education and the need to encourage high-tech companies and jobs.

Theron supports drilling for more oil, building more nuclear power plants and expanding renewable energy choices such as wind turbines on Lake Michigan. And Theron favors free trade to boost state exports.

Baldwin, who caters her agenda to the far left of the Democratic Party, is too quick to raise taxes and has a terrible record on free trade. She even opposed the Peruvian free trade agreement that Barack Obama supported.

Worse, Baldwin favors wasting time and distracting the nation with an impeachment show trial of President Bush — even though he’s already leaving.

Theron’s party isn’t strongly behind him. He has raised the equivalent of pennies to Baldwin’s pile of campaign cash. And some of Theron’s politics lack the moderation a GOP challenger needs to win the Dane County-dominated seat.

Baldwin is a compassionate and professional person. But the long shot Theron, with his real-world experience, gets the nod.

——

I attended the debate between Peter Theron and Tammy Baldwin and all I have to say is “this is the person who has been representing me for so long?”. Good God help us!

Here are just some of the outrageous quotes from the debate.

“We don’t need missiles in Poland”, is she kidding me? Did she not take her geography class? With all the recent uprising of Russia being a bully against Georgia for God only knows what reason, how can she even think such a thought.

“Engaging diplomacy” “Dialog is what is needed” “Our language is too strong when dealing with other nations” Yes you folks she is talking about countries like communist Cuba, terrorist nation Iran, Authoritarian North Korea. Last I checked we in our free country did not approve of countries that were run by dictators, Marxist, and just plan evil leaders who want us dead! Isn’t Iran that country who wants Israel wiped off the face of the earth?

She also states she is a big believer in Cap and Trade or what we here at Wake Up America call Cap and Tax: see post Cap and tax not Cap and trade.

You also would think that the world was coming to an end when she started talking about climate change. “Climate change could bring a real catastrophe to the economic world” is she for real?

She also spoke of significant cuts to defense. Last I checked we are still fighting a war on terrorism. What just leave the troops high and dry? She talks about her “love” for the troops, yeah Tam you really love the troops, you voted twice against funding for them to do there job, and that is defending America against terrorist, people who want to kill us.

The following is a written copy of Peter Theron’s closing remarks in the debate with Tammy Baldwin on the UW-Madison campus.

“We live in a global economic market. One of these issues we have not dealt with enough tonight is how our current economic recession affects the world.

This financial meltdown is the result of multiple Democrat government failures. The Democrats’ failed energy policy that listened to environmental interests rather than providing the U.S. economy with energy crippled our economy this summer with high energy prices. The Democrats’ failed mortgage-lending policy created a housing bubble and housing market crash. The Democrats’ failed fiscal policy caused the stock market crash. These three failures resulted in a Democrat recession.

Indeed, the Democrat policies have also hurt the very people they claimed to help. Millions of lower income Americans will lose their homes. Tens of millions of middle income Americans have seen the value of their investments, homes, and retirement accounts plummet. The government will not have the money to spend on new initiatives such as creating health care options.

The Republicans tried to change the energy policy. But a combination of environmentalists, Democrats, and the national media blinded the public to the need for change.

The Republicans tried to change the mortgage-lending policy. But a combination of lobbyists, Democrats, and the national media told the American people that subprime mortgages were safe and necessary for targeted groups.

It is the Democrats—including Tammy Baldwin—who have had control of the Congress for the last two years, and have not made these changes even though they could have been signed into law.

So now we have a Democrat stock market crash and a Tammy Baldwin Recession.

We must do three things to solve these Democrat problems and root out this corruption in Washington .

First, for the good of our economy we must have solid, secure, and certain sources of American energy. The only way this will happen is if we drill for oil and build more nuclear plants.

Second, we must hold hearings on how the economic meltdown happened—especially on the role of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

Third, we must update the regulatory environment of Wall Street so that we can preserve the free market economy that provides our economic security.

Americans know that Congress has failed. 79% of Americans want to completely replace Congress. On November 4th they can. I ask that you do your part. I ask for your support and vote because I share your belief that we must reform Congress.”

    Pain at the Pump
severely straining family pocketbooks and
impinging on vital services. Temporarily
suspending the federal gas tax is a short-sighted
measure that sounds good, but offers little relief.

Congress overrode a presidential veto and voted
strategic petroleum reserve. The President and
Vice-President are well-versed in, and well-
connected to, big oil. No two leaders are better
and Vice-President to bring pressure to bear on
our oil producing allies to increase production and
support a windfall tax on oil companies that are
reaping exorbitant profits.
…

According to House Republicans suspending the federal gas will lower
the pump price by $.18, while suspending the strategic petroleum
reserve shipments will lower the pump price by only $.05 . Clearly it
is the suspending of reserve shipments that offers little relief.

Liberals are always saying that the United States should lead the
world by example. So, if we want the world to increase its production
of oil, then according to the liberal view, we should increase our
own production. Thus far Tammy Baldwin has voted against every
attempt to increase domestic oil production.

According to the American Petroleum Institute in January 2008,
Wisconsin’s fuel taxes averaged 51.3 cents per gallon on gasoline and
57.3 cents per gallon on diesel. The average oil company profit is
8.1 cents per dollar of sales. At $4 a gallon, this means the oil
company makes 32.4 cents per gallon of fuel. Comparing 51.3 to 32.4
highlights that it is the government, not the oil companies, that are
reaping exorbitant profits. We cannot tax ourselves to prosperity.

The correct response to our current pain at the pump is “Drill here.
Drill now.”
